The Type 99A or ZTZ-99A is a improved version of Chinese third generation main battle tank Type-99 or ZTZ-99. There are many improvement on vehicle including redesigned turret and chassis suspension system and new hydraulic transmission system was added. The vehicle powered by high-power 150HBV 12-cylinder twin-turbocharged computer-controlled high-pressure common rail EFI diesel engine delivering 1,103 kW (1500 hp). An updated the fire control system consist of a new laser active countermeasure system to interfere with enemy laser rangefinders, starlight night vision goggles, optical sights, thermal imaging cameras and other visible / near-infrared optical power equipment, it blinds their target by saturating and invalidating their equipment even permanent damage them. The blinding laser transmitter rotates 360 degrees horizontally, pitches -12 ~ + 90 degrees, horizontal tracking angular velocity 45 degrees / second, pitch rate 40 degrees / second, laser output energy 1000 mega joules, pulse recovery frequency 10 times / second and the maximum working distance is 4000m. The vehicle boarded with counter-weapons and a digital battlefield information processing system. According to Mao Ming, chief designer of the 99A tank, the 99A tank can almost be counted as a newly developed tank. It should have been named the Type 10 tank according to the year of the stereotype, but it was not named for many reasons.
